I have a base V4, I came out from a Supersport S, which I really enjoyed for the little time I had it. The day I test ride the V4 base, I felt in love, so my Supersport S went on a trade in.
The V4 base is the way to go if budget is tide (my case), also the base has a lot in electronics and performs pretty crazy well.
The V4S, the one I almost purchased, was 5K (USD) more and my good friend, Ducati specialist, racer and sales person told me this:
If you are not taking it to the track, why would you buy a V4S? no need (in my case) as I did not want to spent a lot of money and wil probably not track anymore (52 yrs of age and done that for years).
So, the BASE V4 is the way to go, its a fantastic motorcycle, I am loving it and besides all, it is not that bad in terms of comfort, except the HEAT, everything else is the best.
Cheers

I'm about to do the same "mistake" and test a v4 out this week while my Supersport S is getting serviced. Feel free to pm me, but can you fill me in on the differences. How bad is the heat vs your supersport?
I'll tell you this, I previously rode a 959 and the base is a straight up better bike in every category. Yes the V4 was closer in feel/maneuverability to the 08 R6 (my first bike) than the 959 I previously owned.
V4 BASE here, it will do some track duty and coming from a 1199S I didn't want to spend the money for electronic ohlins and lightweight wheels as I have a set of Marchesini magnesium's for the track and would rather have a set of cast wheels for the street that are easily and cheaply replaced... plus the coin saved will go far in aftermarket mods and performance upgrades...
Just picked up a V4 base today. Are you guys going to replace the front fender with black/carbon? I kind of like it. The heat shield in the back is begging for the carbon treatment.
picked my base on the 21st. i think the red fender is money. i dont plan to replace. now the heat shield idk. i want to know if it actually makes difference in heat reduction? iv only replaced the rear fender with an NRC kit.
I bet there will be a good mix of guys buying it for both cosmetic and possible real function that makes a difference. I see it all the time, street driven bikes that have all the hardcore gear
Base all the way. If only street, I would be tempted by a Corsa (S plus cooler graphics).
But I'm mostly track and putting the saved money to more track relevant parts plus allows me to make it a bit more styled to my tastes.
i have a base ad have posted in newbie section, i love the look of it but the suspension is to hard no static sag even though rings backed right off, tail tidy and vinyl wrapped.
I just bought a base as well. I had 600 honda and Yamaha’s my whole riding career and had only dreamed about getting a Ducati it was always unobtainable in my mind till i was bike shopping for my 3rd bike when the wife said if you want it get it (but i had to trade 2 bikes in and that was all it took i have never been happier.
I prefer the base bikes because I always upgrade everything anyway (..forks or fork internals…..thanks Dan Kyle, wheels, levers, this & that).
