It is very sad and something we will all want to know what the cause was ASAP. The owner just picked it up recently and was just out on a normal ride.

I think its best to try and have some details here versus just pictures to help all those concerned.

Quick update. Still no idea why bike caught fire @ stop light, but Ducati North America called the guy and pretty much told him his new bike is on the way. Woot!

Wow that's crazy, did not anticipate seeing something like this so soon after the V4's release. I'm sure it's likely to be a one off scenario and its great to hear that Ducati has been very supportive. Wonder if they'll be able to determine what exactly happened on the bike.

Good on Ducati for giving you a new bike, but I hope this is just a one off and not a problem with all their V4.
Surprised you were calm enough to pull to the side while the bike was on fire, I would have dropped and ran in panic.

possible cause

Ive downloaded the spare parts manual and I'm amazed they are still using the 1098 type oil pressure switch which is located close to the front headers, these sender units are prone to failing !mine did and it cost me a crank others here have had it happen too. I now throw them away and install a new UK part which I might add is the same as all pre 1098 bikes thats monsters,748,996,998 etc a single male blade connector that the female wire blade connects to. If it failed hot oil on hot headers! well you be the judge. Before I ride mine its gone not trusting them on a race track.

Maybe that's what caused the conflagration of jbraslins' Panigale V4. Should we all change out the oil pressure switch just in case?
